Best known to Doctor Who fans for playing Professor Rubeish in the 1973 story The Time Warrior.

He has played a wide variety of roles in productions at the Bristol Old Vic, Oxford Playhouse, York Royal, Nottingham Playhouse and other theatres. He particularly enjoyed Joxer Daly in Juno And The Paycock; Inspector Truscott in Loot, Spooner in Nomansland and Dr Wicksteed in Habeas Corpus. At the Open Air,Regent's Park he played Gonzalo in The Tempest and Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream.For the British Council he toured Europe playing David in The Caretaker.

In the West End he has played Doc in the 1980′s revival of West Side Story at Her Majesty's and Arvide in Guys And Dolls at the Prince of Wales. At the Garrick he played Msr.Damiens in the Almeida's revival of The Rehearsal by Anouilh.

He played Mr Farrah in the second episode of Hotel Babylon and appeared in the films Elizabeth and Little Dorrit.
