Additional Details

Broadcast on BBC2 as part of the channel's arts series The Lively Arts, this was the first in-depth documentary about Doctor Who.

Introduced by Melvyn Bragg, it was produced and directed by Tony Cash, with Bill Morton as the executive producer.

It included many clips from the show, plus interviews with cast and production members as well as a wide range of fans.

Some of the clips from colour stories were taken from black-and-white film copies since the colour videotapes had been wiped.

The programme went out the day after the last episode of season 14 - episode 6 of The Talons of Weng-Chiang - was transmitted and included behind-the-scenes footage from that story.

The documentary was never repeated on BBC TV but was included on the original and special edition DVD releases of The Talons of Weng-Chiang.
