BBC Radio 1 is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who with an hour long documentary looking at Time Lord Rock, or Trock; songs inspired by Mi>Doctor Who.

Huw Stephens discovers how Alex Day (Nerimon on YouTube) invented the name Trock, and how he and Charlie McDonnell (Charlieissocoollike) formed their Trock band, Chameleon Circuit. And Huw travels back in time to tell the story of the show that inspired them.

Matt Smith has a special message for Radio 1's fans of Doctor Who, and there are also appearances from Steven Moffat, Louise Jameson and Anneke Wills. Tom Spilsbury from the Official Doctor Who Magazine and Professor Matt Hills of Aberystwyth University take us through the history of the show, and how it has inspired its fans over the years.

Writer Daniel Blythe, the cast of the Oodcast, Chris Hardwick and Matt Mira of the Nerdist podcast, and Neil and Sue Perryman of The Wife In Space blog also feature, alongside plenty of Trock - and other occasions when the Doctor has been in the charts.

The Story of Trock is a 2ZY Production for BBC Radio 1. It is produced by John Ryan (a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, and editor of Zero Room audio fanzine back in the 80s.)
