Bertie Carvel is an Olivier Award-winning English actor, best known for his work in the realm of musical theatre.

Carvel was born in London, England, the son of a psychologist mother and John Carvel, a journalist. Carvel was educated at University College School. He studied English at the University of Sussex before training as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2003.

Theatre

Carvel has appeared in Revelations at the Hampstead Theatre, Rose Bernd with Headlong, Coram Boy at the Royal National Theatre, The Life of Galileo at the National Theatre, The Man of Mode at the National Theatre, Parade at the Donmar Warehouse, and Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Carvel was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Parade in 2008. He won the award in 2012 for his performance as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical, a production that won six other Oliviers. Carvel also won the UK's TMA Award for Best Performance in a Musical and was similarly nominated for the London's Evening Standard Award. He played Enrico in Damned By Despair at the National Theatre.

In March 2013, he reprised his role as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre. This won him a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical and a nomination for Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Carvel has appeared in several other film, TV and theatre roles, including The Wrong Mans, Babylon, Doctor Who (episode "The Lazarus Experiment"), Sherlock (episode "The Blind Banker"), Bombshell, Hawking, The Crimson Petal and the White, Money and Midsomer Murders (episode "The Great and the Good"). He played Lord Carmarthen in John Adams. In the television film Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures he played Christie's second husband Max Mallowan. Carvel appeared as Bamatabois in the film Les Misérables, based on the musical of the same name. Carvel has also been cast as Jonathan Strange in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, opposite Eddie Marsan as Gilbert Norrell. Carvel is also the voice of the male Imperial Agent in the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. He played Nick Clegg in the Channel 4 drama Coalition in 2015.

Bourque has directed a wide variety of TV movies, series and documentaries, as well as over 60 commercials, short films and music videos. In 2007 he co-wrote and co-directed the theatrical documentary "Shadow Company". An in-depth look into the private military industry, the documentary was reviewed favorably in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Variety and has been used as a teaching tool for the US Senate. 

In 2008, Bourque's documentary "Dreams of Flight" received multiple Leo nominations and won "Best Arts Documentary". The film about an arctic explorer turned aerial dance choreographer had its world premiere at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Bourque co-directed "Darwin's Brave New World" for CBC and ABC Australia, an award-winning documentary series shot in five countries.

Shirley Ballas is an English ballroom dancer, dance teacher, and dance adjudicator.

She specialises in the International Latin division, where she won several championship titles which earned her the nickname the Queen of Latin.

Peter Benson is an English actor probably best known as Bernie Scripps in the popular ITV1 TV-series Heartbeat, a drama about the police in the fictional "Aidensfield" in the 1960s. He has also had a number of other film and television roles, often playing weak or vacillating characters.

Television and theatre

Benson's other television and theatre work includes the regional premiere of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. On television his credits include the Dauphin in Shaw's Saint Joan, Henry VI in all three parts of Henry VI and Richard III for the BBC Television Shakespeare Series, Reuben with Bill Maynard in Alan Plater's Trinity Tales, Henry VII in The Black Adder, Bernard in All Creatures Great and Small, Bor in the Doctor Who serial Terminus. Recent roles include the made for TV film Merlin and A Touch of Frost.

He has also had parts in The Royal, Rumpole of the Bailey, Jeeves and Wooster, The Bill, Peak Practice, Casualty, Tenko and Lovejoy, among others.

Benson played Bernie Scripps in Heartbeat between 1995 and 2010. In the TV-series 'Bernie' Scripps ran Aidensfield Garage, and the local funeral service. He was often involved helping first Claude Greengrass (Bill Maynard), his half-brother Vernon Scripps (Geoffrey Hughes) and later Peggy Armstrong (Gwen Taylor) with disastrous money-making schemes.
